The Oxford Wetland Mitigation Bank is located in the Furnace
Brook drainage in the Pequest River watershed. The Pequest
River watershed is located in the Upper Delaware Watershed
Management Area in New Jersey's Watershed Managment Area
#1 (WMA#1).
For developers in this area who need (or wish) to use a
mitigation bank, rather than onsite mitigation, the Oxford
Wetland Mitigation Bank may provide the ideal solution. When
the NJDEP deems that a site includes high-quality wetlands,
critical wildlife habitat, or small wetlands that are part of a larger
wetland, it may require developers to mitigate on site. Bank
credits may be purchased in lieu of on site mitigation when
approved by the NJDEP.
Given the property’s location, it is excellent for freshwater
wetland mitigation within WMA#1. This region encompasses all
of the Delaware River tributary watersheds in New Jersey from
the Musconetcong River north to the New York border. Other
major tributary watersheds within WMA#1 include the
Pohatcong Creek, Pequest River, Paulinskill River, and Flatbrook
River.
